Biography

James W. Palmer (BA, Dartmouth College; PhD, Claremont U.) was Faculty Director of Film Studies from 1995 to 1998, Director of the Farrand Residential Academic Program, a President’s Teaching Scholar, a winner of the BFA “Excellence in Teaching Award,” and Director of the Conference on World Affairs from 1998 until 2014. He was the co- author of the book The Films of Joseph Losey (Cambridge Film Classics, 1993) and of numerous articles on film and literature, film and philosophy, and “film and the quest for truth.” When he retired from the University of Colorado, in 2014, after a career spanning more than forty-eight years, he was made Honorary Fellow of the CWA Athenaeum, Director Emeritus of the Conference of World Affairs, and the first Professor Emeritus of Cinema Studies.
